The Limits of Educational Fads and the Human Condition. Recovering a Place for the Education of the Great Experiences: the Case of Forgiveness
Abstract
Educational fads make educators pay attention to certain competences and experiences, maybe neglected in the past. However, educators should not allow these fads hide experiences that also have to be educated in order to build a tolerant, fair and solidary society. We consider forgiveness as a basic experience and we believe that the school is an appropriate context to educate in it. For this task, the teacher has to know what forgiveness is and what it is not, which actions facilitate it and which make it more difficult. So he or she will be able to guide the students on this experience. Moreover, we think that the school, through literature, cinema or real testimonies, should promote a culture of forgiveness over a culture of revenge.
