Primary sources for the study of the nature, the master profile and scholastic counterpoint
Abstract
This article presents the most representative primary sources in the twelfth century and first half of the thirteenth century about the nature, ideal profile and social reality of medieval master. The first part analyzes the nature of the teacher in the texts of St. Augustine, St. Bonaventure and St. Thomas. The second part studies the ideal profile of the teacher in the texts of the Pseudo-Boethius, Vincent of Beauvais and Gilbert of Tournai. The last part presents counterpoints or negative social reality of medieval master in the texts of: Everard The german", William Malmsburiense, and Peter Abelard. The work is done with Latin sources, some of that very little studied. The work represents a reference for medieval historiography on the teacher.
