Intellectual foundations of exceptionality: An integration scheme
Abstract
This paper provides a description of intellectual exceptionality derived from current views of intelligence and cognitive functioning. Such a theoretical framework differs from the classic psychometric foundations of giftedness and talent, although it coherently explains the full set of phenomena described in high abilities literature. Ability and skill levels of activity are integrated along the developmental dimension of cognitive functioning, and a specificity-generality continuum is proposed as a descriptive scheme for high level intellectual performance.
Key Words: intelligence, modularity, high abilities, gifted, talent, precocity.
