Schleiermacher is known as a religious philosopher for whom religion is founded in human emotions. He was a protestant theologian and a philosopher who was a contemporary of Hegel. Like Hegel, his thinking is dialectical, but realistic rather than idealistic in nature. He founded hermeneutics. Schleiermacher believes that the world is made up of opposites that, in a dialectical manner, have to be reconciled until the Highest Good has been reached. It is human beings’ duty to collaborate in this process, and this is what Ethics consists of. The aim of education is to teaching people that they must work to reconcile the opposites that exist both in the world and in the educational process itself, contributing in this way to the achievement of the Highest Good.
