The article presents an interpretation of the final document of the International Consultative Conference on School Education in relation to Freedom of Religion and Belief, Tolerance and Non-Discrimination. Beginning by an analysis of the UN Declaration on the Elimination of All Forms of Intolerance and of Discrimination based on Religion and Belief and showing the internal and external difficulties that the International Conference had, the article finish tackling the last development on religious freedom that have been approved after the Conference, and with a proposal of some basic principles that should guide the social behaviours in order to promote a true religious freedom, that should be very appropriate to be included in a next United Nations Covenant about this theme. El trabajo continúa exponiendo los desarrollos sobre la libertad religiosa que se han producido tras la Conferencia Internacional y termina con la propuesta de algunos principios básicos que deberían orientar los comportamientos sociales para promover una verdadera libertad religiosa y que sería muy conveniente fueran recogidas por un futuro Convenio de las Naciones Unidas sobre el tema.
